A compact MIDI controller you build yourself.
The LWP Series Basilisk Kit is a compact MIDI controller capable of simultaneously transmitting five Program Change (PC) messages and five Control Change (CC) messages.
No soldering is required. The kit can be assembled easily using the included tools and a standard Phillips screwdriver. It’s also a great way to learn how MIDI controllers and electronic effects devices in general are built.
The Basilisk requires a standard center-negative 9V DC power supply. Battery operation is not supported.
BASILISK
MIDI control was once the domain of guitarists and bassists running large, complicated systems filled with rack equipment. It could be powerful, but it was hardly simple.
Today, more and more musical equipment supports MIDI control. Multi-effects units, sophisticated compact effects pedals, modern tube amplifiers, and other gear can now respond to complex MIDI commands.
MIDI makes it possible to replace complicated footwork with a single switch. You can change multiple effects presets, switch amplifier channels, adjust volume, and perform other operations simultaneously, all from one location.
For large systems, MIDI control has long been essential. But as MIDI becomes available on more compact equipment, it can be just as valuable in a small pedalboard system. The ability to coordinate multiple pieces of gear can make a dramatic difference in both control and performance.
The Basilisk puts a powerful MIDI controller into a compact pedal-sized enclosure.
It can simultaneously transmit five different Program Change numbers and five different Control Change messages, with up to 128 complete presets stored internally.

THREE WAYS TO CONTROL YOUR SYSTEM
Normal Recall Mode
The standard operating mode. Use the upper footswitches to select a bank, then use the lower footswitches to select a preset.
The available bank range can be limited to the banks you actually use, making navigation faster and more intuitive.
Direct Access Mode
When you change banks using the upper footswitches, the Basilisk immediately transmits the corresponding MIDI signal without waiting for a lower footswitch to be pressed.
This is especially useful when quickly moving between presets across multiple banks.
As with Normal Recall Mode, the available bank range can be limited to improve operation.
Flash Access Mode
Flash Access Mode is automatically enabled when the Normal Recall Mode is configured to use only a single bank.
In this configuration, the four footswitches provide immediate access to four presets. Two presets are assigned from the selected bank, while the remaining two are taken from the following bank.
For systems where four frequently used presets need to be instantly accessible, Flash Access Mode provides extremely fast operation.
REMOTE ACCESS FROM AN EXTERNAL MIDI CONTROLLER
The Basilisk can receive Program Change messages from an external MIDI device and use them to recall any of its 128 internal presets.
For example, the Basilisk can be used together with a MIDI-capable switcher such as the One Control OC10. This allows you to control effect ON/OFF functions while simultaneously sending MIDI PC and CC messages to other equipment.
Because the Basilisk can receive MIDI commands and transmit new MIDI commands, it can also serve as a MIDI expansion point when controlling larger systems.
The MIDI input can be assigned to an individual MIDI channel or configured for OMNI mode.
TWO MIDI OUTPUTS
The Basilisk features two MIDI OUT connections, both transmitting the same MIDI signal.
As more MIDI devices are connected, signal integrity can become increasingly important. Keeping the number of devices connected to each MIDI output as low as possible helps maintain reliable control.
With two MIDI outputs, the Basilisk makes it easier to distribute MIDI signals accurately across a larger system.
FLEXIBLE MIDI CHANNEL ASSIGNMENT
Each of the five PC messages and five CC messages can be assigned to its own MIDI channel. Incoming MIDI messages can also be assigned to an individual MIDI channel or set to OMNI mode.
Note: The MIDI channel assignments for the five PC and five CC messages are shared across all presets. Individual MIDI channels cannot be assigned separately for each preset.
